What's the deal? Miss Penny is not going to like this. She was feeling pretty special for a little while.

This one is in pretty bad shape on the outside, but it does have the "burner with a brain."

Having done metal work, I can see what happened to this stove. Someone decided to clean this stove using a copper polish. A portion of the original protective coating was removed in several places. The storage cabinet door is pretty well stripped and apparantly recently polished, probably for the photo-op and lisitng. The streaking is a result of not removing all of the protective coat and re-occuring oxidation. The right side of the oven door shows the same thing but there was a smaller amount of the original protective coat removed, possibly only by splatter of whatever compund was used and the re-oxidation only to a greater degree than the oven door. The copper will naturally oxidize to dark brown then to the blue/green in the photo. Refinishing this stove is not a do it yourself project with a grocery store copper cleaning kit. Use that kit for the bottom of your copper clad skillets if you need them to shine. If you have ever attempted to clean old copper,a kettle,a candle stick, whatever, you know it is real work...this stove is MAJOR WORK. Again, to properly clean the copper: DO NOT USE AMMONIA, it will destroy the protective coating. All you can do is wash it with gentle cleaners and NO ABRASIVES. If you want to re-do the copper, hire a professional. Once the protective coating has been removed, you are open to any copper finish you like; the original antiqued finish, a brilliant finish, an oxidized verdigris, a marooned finish....your call. Modern coatings will withstand the heat better than the origianl and will stand up to more aggressive cleaners.
